Conjunctivitis / Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis / Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as Pink Eye, causes swelling, itching, burning, and redness of the white of the eye and/or eyelid. Conjunctivitis can spread from one person to another and affects millions of Americans. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, allergy, environmental irritants, contact lens products, eyedrops, or eye ointments.

Conjunctivitis is typically painless and will clear in most cases without treatment, but for most forms of conjunctivitis, treatment will be vital to healing and preventing visual loss or preventing the spread of infection to others. If treatment is delayed, the infection may worsen and cause corneal inflammation and a loss of vision.
