Stye / Chalazion

Stye / Chalazion

A stye is a red tender bump on the eyelid that is caused by an infection of the oil glands of the eyelid. A chalazion can follow the development of a stye and is a usually painless and firm. A chalazion can be painful and red if there is also an infection.

Warm compresses should be applied to the lid to reduce swelling. If the chalazion does not disappear or gets larger, surgery may be necessary. Early treatment is key to trying to avoid possible surgical treatment.

If you are experiencing discomfort from a stye or chalazion, contact Haller Eye Center immediately.
